A Real Pizza Work: Fat Daddy’s Pizza Turns Two!

“Burgaw’s favorite pie shop, Fat Daddy’s Pizza, just celebrated two years around the sun on August 1!”

Burgaw’s favorite pie shop, Fat Daddy’s Pizza, just celebrated two years around the sun on August 1!

One thing we’ve learned about this retro pizza shop on W. Fremont Street in the past two years is that consistency is key! Whether you swing by for their great 2-slice lunch deal or on the way home for a grab-and-go family pleaser, you are always met with the same friendly faces and freshly baked pizza.

If the large glass windows and groovy logo aren’t enough to draw you in, the smell of fresh baked crust and garlic will do the trick. I find owner, Jay Kranchalk, in the back of the shop as he waves me back with a flour-covered hand. “Mind if I roll some dough while we talk?” Jay asks as he continues to separate and weigh dough in preparation for the dinner crowd. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio and currently residing in Wilmington, Jay seems to have settled into the Burgaw way; casual, kind and hard-working.

Since opening two years ago, Fat Daddy’s has been featured in the Wilmington Business Journal, Star News and Port City Daily and has been credited for some of the growth happening in Burgaw.

Jay and his staff take great care in maintaining the shop and serving the community. He tells me business is consistent and that everyday they are meeting their goals; most days exceeding them. The town continues to rally around Fat Daddy’s Pizza and support the vision of Jay and his staff. A very happy 2nd birthday to Fat Daddy’s and cheers to many more years of great pizza and people in Burgaw!
