Ever been in a store where you can buy a prom dress, cowgirl boots and a piano? Well, we know just the place. Ranging from wooden table ensembles, jewelry, handbags and art work, The Glass Cloche houses a variety of vendors from around the region. That’s where the store gets its name – a nod to the bell-shaped glass domes used for holding beloved items and collections for safekeeping. 

The downtown Burgaw storefront provides this safekeeping for vendors to display their unique talents and products. Owner Lisa Kirkley takes pride in the community she built, creating a space where people can stop in to shop or even just say hello. 

Opening a store in the aftermath of a global pandemic was no easy feat, she said. But in addition to locals rallying around her, she said the movie studios have also kept business going. Movie buyers, wardrobe and set designs have all sourced from The Glass Cloche, keeping business booming.

Previously a vendor herself in Charleston, South Carolina, and Wilmington, Kirkley dreamed of opening a store of her own in small town America. A close friend, David Cornelli, gave Lisa the opportunity to live out her dream when he bought the historic building and offered her the space downtown. With her experience and passion, Kirkley curated her perfect store. Attracting visitors from all across the country, she is more than optimistic about The Glass Cloche’s future.
